Certificate description
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an internationally recognised standard developed through collaboration among leading standard-setting organizations. Its primary purpose is to define requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles throughout the entire supply chain. The standard applies from the harvesting of raw materials, such as certified organic cotton, wool, or other natural fibers, through environmentally responsible and socially ethical manufacturing processes. GOTS specifies strict limits on chemical inputs, including pesticides, fertilizers, and processing chemicals, while also setting requirements for water and energy use, waste management, and ecological protection during production.
Moreover, GOTS requires compliance with international social standards, including fair labor practices, safe working conditions, and the prohibition of child and forced labor. The standard further covers all processing stages, including spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing, and labeling, to ensure traceability and transparency. Certified products must carry the GOTS label, providing consumers with credible assurance of the product’s organic integrity and adherence to sustainable practices. By maintaining comprehensive and globally recognised criteria, GOTS promotes both environmental sustainability and social responsibility across the textile industry.
